Flock Heat Transfers were developed to bridge the market demand gap between the traditional graphics processes of screen printing (fast, precise design reproduction, inexpensive and low perceived value) and embroidery (slow, more imprecise design reproduction, expensive and high perceived value).
Characterized by the first combination of high speed production plus richly-textured graphics in one process, Flock Heat Transfers represented a new value and graphics process for decorating textiles, primarily apparel.
LextraŽ brand Flock Heat Transfers, invented and patented originally by High Voltage Graphics and FiberLok, enhanced all the primary values of Flock Heat Transfers:
- Dimension/Texture: longer, more plush fibers (.75 millimeter versus .3 millimeter)
- Permanence: yarn-dyed nylon fibers instead of pigment ink colored rayon, more washable, abrasion and heat resistant than rayon
- Intense Color: light transmitted through more translucent, pre-dyed nylon fiber and reflected off backing adhesive
Because of the availability and preference for superior-quality Lextra, over the years some production of Flock Heat Transfers has been replaced with Lextra.
